Text Box: About Glendale Fire Department

Glendale Fire Department was formed in the early 1970’s by members of Glendale Lions Club which saw the need for emergency services in the community.  The department operated for many years with one engine and one small utility/brush truck from a small storage building on Jaggers Road across from the Glendale Community Park.

Later, the department was moved to a building at the corner of East Main Street and Jaggers Road where members responded with 3 vehicles parked in a two bay door building.  Seeing the need for expansion, in the Spring of 2006, the Glendale Fire Department Board of Trustees approved a major addition and renovation project.  The new structure includes two larger bays and a small meeting/kitchen area.  This addition more than doubled the size of the station giving the members a safer working environment.

Then in March of 2007, the Board of Trustees appointed Heath Ryan as fire chief after the retirement of Margie Jones and the first order of business was for the department to acquire an up to date fire apparatus.  After a lengthy search and meetings with the both the Hardin County Fiscal Court and Glendale Fire Department Board of Trustees the department purchased a 1996 HME Telesquirt  which has given the department a reliable response vehicle with the bonus of an aerial device.

Currently the department is operating with 17 volunteers from all walks of life which respond to emergencies in the 100 Square Mile Glendale response area including: All Fires, Medical Emergencies, Motor Vehicle Accidents and Hazardous Materials Emergencies at the Operations Level.  Each member must go through 150 hours of training in various subjects to become a Kentucky certified firefighter then maintain 20 hours of continuing education training each year after certification.  All of required training can be obtained at the regular monthly department meetings without a new member having to travel great distances.  If being a volunteer firefighter sounds like something for you, please click the Become a Member link for more information on becoming a member of Glendale Fire Department.
